Matteo's Favourite 25 dishes from the last 25 years

We surveyed 100 people and the top 25 answers are on the board…
Over 25 years, Matteo’s has become much more than a restaurant: it is a home-away-from-home, a dining room for a special occasion, a place to fall in love, a perfect venue for events and a training ground for young hospitality professionals.

We want to say THANK YOU to the people who have contributed to our success and to champion 25 people - customers, staff, suppliers and industry - who have supported, inspired and collaborated with Matteo’s over this time, by sharing their stories and experiences of the restaurant. As for the menu, it’s our birthday so we’re going to have fun with it.
With the restaurant’s evolution over the last 25 years, we’ve put together a ‘collage’ of the 25 most requested dishes; all cooked and served with the love & respect that has been our trademark since 1994.

This menu will run from 17 July to 12 August and includes the most-popular Gnocco con Gamberi (pan-fried potato gnocco, sautéed prawns, tomato salsa and pesto mascarpone) and the Japanese seafood Trio (semi-cured Hiramasa kingfish, teriyaki-glazed smoked eel & Petuna ocean trout tataki), both of which were on the menu for over 12 years. In a time where everything old, is new again, the month-long celebration will conclude with a very special dinner on Tuesday 13 August; an Italian feast of dishes from Matteo’s first head chef, his wife Franca Pignatelli.

Moving forward to the next 25 years, this dinner will precede the restaurants return to a modern approach to classical Italian cuisine - done only as a Melburnian can do.

Matteo’s will be closed for its annual Easter break from Good Friday 25th until Easter Monday 28th March 2016.

We will reopen for dinner on Tuesday 29th March 2016 [with normal trading hours thereafter].
